HOA Comparison Research Report
At the previous board meeting it was suggested that other HOAs in our area had larger boards, representing fewer residents. As a result, we looked into board sizes of neighborhoods near and similar to Heathlake.
The following table shows data regarding several neighborhoods in our vicinity. The data show that there doesn’t seem to be a pattern related to anything other than the type of governance dictated by their bylaws. The HOAs with a large number of Board members have bylaws that leave the Board of Directors size in the hands of their governing Boards. In the HOAs with large Boards, all members beyond the first five, have specific duties, in addition to voting: ACC (deed restrictions), landscaping, security, facilities, events, etc. In fact, Heathlake has these positions, but they are appointed by the Board and don’t have voting rights: they serve as long as they and the Board are willing.
